2009 Belmont Stakes Wagering at SBG Global

Belmont Stakes wagering starts with Kentucky Derby winner Mine That Bird who also finished second in the Preakness Stakes.

Mine That Bird will be the popular choice in Belmont Stakes odds at the sports book, especially if Preakness winner Rachel Alexandra does not run.

Belmont Stakes wagering has horses going a long mile and a half in a race that wears down many of the horses. Belmont Stakes odds in 2009 will not have a Triple Crown on the line since Mine That Bird won the Derby and Rachel Alexandra won the Preakness. That means the action in Belmont Stakes wagering will be less and the attention will be less. It does not mean though that value can’t be found at the online sportsbook or that the race won’t be exciting.

Since 1979 there have been ten horses that have been alive for the Triple Crown only to fail in Belmont Stakes wagering. The most recent failure was Big Brown in 2008. Other recent failures in Belmont Stakes wagering have been Silver Charm, Real Quiet, Charismatic, War Emblem, Funny Cide and Smarty Jones.

This year it will be Mine That Bird the logical favorite in Belmont Stakes odds at the sportsbook but that doesn’t mean he will win. Longshots have been the rule, not the exception recently in Belmont Stakes wagering.

Anything can happen in a mile and a half race as Belmont Stakes wagering has shown. Many online sportsbook gamblers will look to a closer to win the Belmont since the race is so long. The reality though is that closers don’t win that often. Horses that can stalk the pace usually have a lot more success than deep closers in the Belmont Stakes.

Belmont Stakes odds in 2009 could have as many as 12 horses part of the field. Mine That Bird is definitely in while Rachel Alexandra is a question mark. Other horses that should be in the field include Peter Pan Stakes’ winner Charitable Man, Kentucky Derby horses Mr. Hot Stuff, Chocolate Candy, Summer Bird and Dunkirk. Preakness horses Flying Private and Luv Gov should be in the field. Brave Victory who was third in the Peter Pan should be in the field as should Federico Tesio winner Miner’s Escape.
