Hamilton Tiger-Cats
Charlie Taaffe returns as a CFL head coach for the league’s worst team. Quarterback Jason Maas had a rotten season last year and he is being challenged for the starting job by former University of Hawaii QB Timmy Chang and former NFL QB Shaun King. Running back Corey Holmes was also poor last season and needs to do better. The Ticats added quarterbacks Shaun King, Rocky Butler, receivers Richard Alston, Kwame Cavil, No. 1 draft pick Chris Bauman, offensive lineman Jerome Davis, defensive linemen Alvin Washington, Nautyn MacKay-Loescher. They lost running back Josh Ranek, receivers D.J. Flick, Kamau Peterson, Terry Vaughn, kicker Jamie Boreham, defensive linemen Tim Cheatwood, James Cotton and defensive back Jason Goss. Even with Taaffe as head coach the Ticats will need a lot of good fortune to be a .500 team.
Montreal Alouettes
Anthony Calvillo is the man in Montreal. He led the Alouettes to the Grey Cup last season for the fifth time in his career and lost for the fourth time. Defensively, the Alouettes have added players on the line and at linebacker. They added receiver Keith Stokes, defensive linemen Steve Charbonneau, Tim Cheatwood, linebackers Donnavan Carter, John Grace. They lost running back Eric Lapointe, receiver Thyron Anderson, defensive linemen Ed Philion, Jerome Haywood, linebacker Duane Butler, defensive backs Ricky Bell and Richard Karikari. Montreal is getting older and could take a step down after last year’s Grey Cup appearance.
Toronto Argonauts
The quarterback battle is the talk with the Argonauts. Veteran QB Damon Allen is battling Michael Bishop and Mike McMahon for the job. Ricky Williams is gone and now it is up to John Avery to stay healthy. The team struggled against the run last year and had just 27 sacks, which was the lowest number in the league. The team addedquarterbacks Mike McMahon, Tom Arth, offensive linemen Taylor Robertson, Glen Carson, and defensive lineman Adriano Belli. They lost running back Ricky Williams, receivers R. Jay Soward, Keith Stokes, offensive linemen Jerome Davis, Bernard Williams, defensive lineman Eric England, defensive backs Clifford Ivory and Antonious Bonner. If the Argos can settle on a quarterback they have the potential to make some noise in the CFL this season.
Winnipeg Blue Bombers
Quarterback Kevin Glenn has been up and down for Winnipeg and must be more consistent. The Bombers have upgraded their offensive line and that should help running back Charles Roberts. He could become only the second back in the past 10 years to break 1,700 yards rushing in a single season. On defense Nate Davis should team with Doug Brown, Tom Canada and Gavin Walls to really put pressure on other teams. The team added offensive linemen Andrew Greene, Alexandre Gauthier, defensive lineman Nate Davis, defensive backs Davin Bush, Jason Nugent and Anthony Malbrough. They lost offensive lineman Mike Abou-Mechrek, defensive lineman Ron Warner, linebacker Donnavan Carter, defensive backs Ike Charlton, Omar Evans and Stanford Samuels. The Blue Bombers are a mystery team. They could do anything from dominate to miss the playoffs.

B.C. Lions
The B.C. Lions are trying to become the first team in 10 years to win back-to-back Grey Cups. Head coach Wally Buono has never won consecutive Cups as a head coach. Dave Dickenson is the best quarterback in the league but he also has Buck Pierce coming off the bench. The team resigned all of their key players but did lose Running back Mark Nohra, offensive lineman Bobby Singh, defensive linemen Chris Wilson, Nautyn MacKay-Loescher, linebackers Carl Kidd and George White. B.C. is still the best team in the CFL and the definite favourite to repeat this season.
Calgary Stampeders
The quarterback position is a problem for Calgary. They have Henry Burris who can’t play and former NFL bust Akili Smith. The receiving corps is good if someone can get them the ball. They also have draft pick Jon Cornish who set a single-season rushing record at Kansas. They added receivers Ryan Thelwell, Marc Boerigter, quarterback Akili Smith, offensive linemen Garrick Jones and Bobby Singh. They lost quarterback Danny McManus, receiver Elijah Thurmon, defensive lineman Sheldon Napastuk, linebacker John Grace, offensive linemen Alexandre Gauthier and Taylor Robertson. It is a talented group in Calgary but the quarterback position is a definite problem. If they can find someone to be consistent they can challenge B.C. for the top spot.
Edmonton Eskimos
The Edmonton defense just can’t stop anyone. The Edmonton offense must carry the team in 2007. Running back Josh Ranek should be good behind an offensive line led by Kevin Lefsrud. QB Ricky Ray had a lot of yards last year but he can play better. The Eskimos added running back Josh Ranek, offensive lineman Kevin Lefsrud, defensive lineman Ron Warner, defensive backs Omarr Morgan, Stanford Samuels, Ricky Bell and Jason Goss. They lost running back Troy Davis, receiver Ed Hervey, linebackers Singor Mobley, Quincy Stewart, defensive backs Malcolm Frank, Donny Brady and Kelly Wiltshire. The Eskimos should put up a lot of points but stopping people will remain a problem.
Saskatchewan Roughriders
Kent Austin is in his first year with the Roughriders. He does know QB Kerry Joseph as they were together with Ottawa. The offensive line is a question mark as is the running game. The defense can be good and has Reggie Hunt, Fred Perry, Scott Schultz and Eddie Davis. The Riders added receivers Thyron Anderson, D.J. Flick, offensive lineman Mike Abou-Mechrek and kicker Jamie Boreham. They lost offensive linemen Charles Thomas, Andrew Greene, Fred Childress, defensive lineman Nate Davis, linebacker Jackie Mitchell and defensive back Davin Bush. The Riders need to find more offense to go with their solid defense.
