2006 Green Bay Packers and football betting

2006 Football Betting Season Review: The Green Bay Packers started off the 2006 season at 1-4 but played well down the stretch and finished 8-8. They were tough to figure out for football betting players going 7-8-1 against the spread.

They were also 7-8-1 for football betting players that bet totals. Linebacker A.J. Hawk proved he was worthy of his first round selection and led the team in tackles. Quarterback Brett Favre had a decent football betting season but still threw too many interceptions and continually forced the ball into bad situations.

Coming off an abysmal 2005 football betting  season in which the Packers were one of the worst teams in football, and an NFL betting off-season that saw legend Brett Favre come within in an eyelash away from retiring, no one expected anything out of the Green Bay Packers in the 2006 football betting season.  However, this team was a pleasant surprise and it was a joy to watch the grizzled veteran Favre get that competitive gleam back in his eye and try and make something of this team.  When the dust finally settled on the football betting season the Packers had finished 8-8, in second place in the division and very close to procuring a playoff spot.  If you would have told a Packer fan at the beginning of the football betting season that the 2006 season would end with that type of mild mediocrity they likely would have been ecstatic.  And the good news for the Packer nation is that this is a very young team that should only get better next year.
Favre enjoyed a bit of resurgence with his new packer teammates.  Favre has played with so many players over the years that nothing seems to surprise him, but last year it seemed as though he was comfortable as the aged veteran for the first time in his career and had a special bond with the youngsters he played with.  It was far from Favre’s best football betting season and he was still hampered by errant throws and INTs which seemed to come in handfuls, but at the end of the day there are still very few QBs that can do on the field what he does when everything is clicking.  His instinct is still there and his arm still strong, the only thing that gets him in trouble is throwing on the run without planting his feet, last year it seemed as if a couple balls got away from him and the strength to jam the ball in a tiny target just isn’t there anymore.  Nonetheless, Favre still threw for 3885 yards and 18 TDs.  However, there were also 18 INTs and a lowly 56% completion percentage.
Favre’s favorite target, Donald Driver had a huge year and should do everything within his power to discourage Favre from retiring.  If he wants to keep putting up big football betting numbers.  Driver hauled in 92 passes for 1300 yards and eight TDs on a 14.1 yard per catch average.  The running game, however, could not keep pace with the passing, and although Ahman Green rushed for over 1000 yards again on a 4 yard per carry average, when he went down with a football betting season ending injury things got ugly.  Noah Herron tried to step in but simply wasn’t a threat to the defense.  Brett Favre, seemingly proving he still has gas in the tank ranked third in rushing…with 29 yards, and that illustrates the type problem this team had running the ball in 2006.  And even though the team performed very well with the ball in its hands, ranked 9th in total yards per game, it simply couldn’t score, ranking 23rd in points per football betting game.
The Defense was the biggest surprise for this team and should provide a very nice security blanket to old man Favre in the coming football betting season.  This was very young and very solid unit in 2006 and it will only get better.  AJ Hawk the OSU phenom taken with the first round pick was outstanding and formed one of the best middle linebacker duos in the league with Nick Barnett.  Hawk had 119 tackles to pace the team followed by Burnett with 105.  Aaron Kampman came out of nowhere and notched an incredible 15.5 sacks.  And all pro Charles Woodson also got into the act snagging 8 INTs.  This was a very good defensive football betting team that will only get better.
The defensive football betting unit in fact ranked 12th overall in total yards per game which is outstanding for such a young team coming off such a crummy football betting season in 2005.   It was ranked 13th against the run allowing only 103 yards a game and was ranked 17th against the pass allowing 237 yards per game.  The only weakness of this unit was its inability to shut down the scoring.  This football betting team ranked a disproportionate and troubling 26th in points allowed with opponents tacking on 22 points per meeting.
