2006 New York Giants and football betting
2006 Review: Football betting fans felt that the 2006 season for the Giants ended in a disappointment. Football betting fans saw how the team started 6-2 but backed into the playoffs and did nothing once reaching the playoffs, losing to the Philadelphia Eagles. NFL betting fans know that QB Eli Manning was very inconsistent during the season and the team had to deal with Tiki Barber’s pending retirement and the continued poor coaching of Tom Coughlin.

The New York Giants have a lot of questions to answer after a lackluster 2006 football betting season. The team had huge expectations and everyone in New York, the fans, the media, and everyone else thought this was the year for Giants to get back to the Super Bowl. Well, they were all wrong and the team finished a very disappointing third place in their own division. Not very good for a so called preseason contender. But the fact the team expected to win the division in the NFL betting preseason slumped to third place and struggled to barely finish at .500 is a good indication that things aren’t on track for the football Giants.
The biggest question mark surrounding this team and its football betting fans is at the QB spot. This team traded away a king’s dowry to get their hands on a bit of the Manning mystique and now it’s turning out to seem like the piece of Manning they got may not be all that great. Eli Manning is no Peyton Manning, that’s for certain, but the way he’s been playing of late, he may not even be a Charlie Batch. Despite showing some brilliance in pressure spots in 2006, l for the most part the younger Manning was lackluster, pedestrian and error-prone (you can chose the adjective you think most appropriate). How much longer the team sticks with this guy if he doesn’t show drastic improvement is something that the team is going to have to seriously consider. Last football betting season Manning completed 57% of his passes for 3200 yards, 24 TDs and 18 INts for a lukewarm QB rating of 77. The numbers for football betting fans weren’t terrible but they weren’t’ good enough for the New York fans and he made a lot of errors when the pressure was strongest.
In 2006 under Coach Coughlin’s very dictatorial style there was also very nearly a player mutiny judging by the headlines and by the end of the year, rumor has it that the team could have cared less about winning the division and getting into the playoff as locker room tensions had destroyed the team. Tiki Barber spoke out against the coach as did the out spoken start tight end Jeremy Shockey. And you can be sure that Tom’s job is as good as gone if he doesn’t bring home a division title in the coming football betting season.
But despite his words against the coach, Barber had another great season. He rushed for 1600 yards on a whopping 5.1 yards per carry average, including a 200+ game over hated rivals, the Redskins to close out not only the football betting season, but his career. Barber hung up his spikes on a wonderful career after the 2006 football betting season, a decision which many think was premature, but he left on top, with style, with class, and he still ahs the ability to walk without the aid of a cane.
The receiving corps was decent with Plexico Buress again doing well as the number one receiver snagging 63 passes for nearly 100 yards and 10 TDs. Shockey proved once again he’s one of the better tight ends in the NFC with 66 catches for 623 yards and seven TDs, despite battling a few injuries. Barber will also be missed catching the ball out of the backfield as he reeled in nearly 60 passes last football betting season for over 400 yards.
The offense ranked 11th in points per game last football betting season, but the defense stunk. It was completely and utterly decimated by injuries. This team went through defensive ends like dirty socks last year and the numbers were awful. It was no fault of any one player but in a physical game like game football, players get injured and last year that was the story of the defense. Antonio Peirce was the exception with a very solid year, posting 139 tackles. His fellow linebackers also did well with Gibril Wilson and Will Demps both nothing 100 tackles as well, but after these three guys, there was very little to view positively on the defense, mainly do to injuries.
With a healthy defense this team would have likely won the division. But it’s very physical division and injuries always are a problem in the NFC East. Would have, should have, could have…there’s always next year.
