New England Patriots NFL Point Spreads

NFL Point Spreads on New England Patriots’ games in 2007 reached record proportions. Here is a look back at some NFL Spread numbers from the 2007 Patriots.

NFL Point Spreads show that New England finished the regular season a perfect 16-0 straight up and 10-6 against the NFL Spread. They were also a great over team as they went over 11 of their 16 regular season games against the NFL Point Spreads. New England became only the second team in NFL history to finish a regular season undefeated.

Unfortunately for the Patriots, that perfect regular season will just be a footnote in history as they lost Super Bowl XLII to the New York Giants by a score of 17-14. The Patriots were an offensive machine during the regular season as they set NFL records of 589 points scored in a season, most TD passes in a season (50 by Tom Brady) and most TD catches in a season, (23 by Randy Moss). Point Spreads show that the defense was okay for New England but nothing special.

NFL Point Spreads data shows that eight Patriots made the Pro Bowl. They were quarterback Tom Brady, wide receiver Randy Moss, offensive tackle Matt Light, guard Logan Mankins, cornerback Asante Samuel, linebacker Mike Vrabel, defensive tackle Vince Wilfork and center Dan Koppen.

Looking forward to 2008 NFL Point Spreads on New England games will still be high but the Patriots do have some question marks. They lost top cornerback Assante Samuel in the off-season and the defense is getting old. NFL Point Spreads data shows that the defense was ranked fourth in points allowed and in yardage allowed by losing Samuel is a huge blow and the top players are not getting any younger.

The running game was hot and cold last year with Laurence Maroney so the Patriots may look for a running back to complement him. NFL Point Spreads data showed that the Patriots had the #1 offense but most of that offense came through the air. The rushing game was 13th in the NFL in 2007.

NFL Point Spreads on New England will always be high with Tom Brady at the helm. The Patriots were an NFL Spread winner in 2007 during the regular season going 10-6 but almost all of those NFL Point Spreads were covered in the first half of the season. In the second half of the year and in the playoffs the Patriots were an NFL Point Spreads disaster as the oddsmakers caught up with them and the NFL Spread numbers were extremely high.
