Addition of T.O. Should Help Lee Evans

One of the high profile off-season moves had Terrell Owens signing with the Buffalo Bills.

The Bills are counting on Owens to give them a deep threat on offense and to take the pressure off Lee Evans.  Last season Evans was double covered a lot of the time by opposing teams but that should not happen this year with Owens on the other side.  “There’s no doubt the dynamics of our offense have now changed with Terrell on the other side of Lee,” said offensive coordinator Turk Schonert. “We have to see how teams are going to play us. Last year especially the second half of the season, Lee was doubled. They take away our big threat and everybody kind of copied it and did the same thing the second half.”

Buffalo is still considered a longshot in NFL betting odds to win the Super Bowl but the addition of Owens has at least made Buffalo an interesting team in NFL odds at the sports book.  With Owens and Evans providing great receiving options for quarterback Trent Edwards the Bills could be an exciting team in NFL betting this season.  Evans definitely shouldn’t get double covered as he did last year.  “I think it will certainly drop,” Evans said. “I was double-covered a lot last year. I think that it will drop. It’s hard to say by how much. I think teams will just try to schematically do different things that take people away at certain times, but it will be on the quarterback to make the right read on what the defense is trying to do, and see who is open and make the play.”

Evans had more than 1,000 yards receiving but had only three touchdown catches as NFL betting stats show.  Owens may be a disruptive influence but he definitely can improve an offense as he has done in the past.  With Owens on the field, opposing defenses have to respect his deep threat and it opens up the field for the rest of the offense.  Edwards believes the Bills could do what Arizona did last season with Larry Fitzgerald and Anquan Boldin. “That’s why Arizona was so effective,” said Edwards. “They have two great receivers that you have to be concerned with the entire game.” Fitzgerald and Boldin combined for 185 catches, 2,469 yards and 23 touchdowns last season as NFL betting stats show.  The Bills are a 45-1 longshot to win Super Bowl XLIV at the sportsbook.
