Anderson Ready for Training Camp

Cleveland Browns quarterback Derek Anderson has reportedly recovered from a calf injury and will be ready for training camp.

Anderson missed the last two days of minicamp in June with the injury.  NFL betting info tells us that Anderson is competing with Brady Quinn for the starting job in 2009.

NFL betting numbers tell us that Anderson threw for 3,787 yards and 29 touchdowns in 2007 and went to the Pro Bowl.  He was a mess last year though and Brady Quinn was given a chance to win the job.  Quinn wasn’t much better and the job this season is wide open although reports have Quinn holding a slight lead entering training camp.  The Browns are considered a big longshot in NFL odds at the online sportsbook in 2009.

Online betting info tells us that the Browns have a new head coach in Eric Mangini and a new offensive coordinator in Brian Daboll.  The Browns are hoping that Daboll can revive a dull offense in 2009. It may not be easy considering the Browns have very little offensive talent.  Daboll is optimistic though. "I've learned offense from a couple different people," Daboll said. I've been in this league for about 10 years. Some of it is from Charlie (Weis), some of it is from Brian Schottenheimer, some from Bill Callahan, Dante Scarnecchia, Tater (Carl) Smith -- there are a lot of guys.”

The Browns don’t really have any offensive weapons other than wide receiver Braylon Edwards and he is horribly inconsistent.  NFL betting numbers show he led the league in dropped passes last year.  The Browns also let Kellen Winslow Jr. get away so now they don’t even have a solid tight end that can give Anderson or Quinn a safety valve.  Whichever quarterback wins the job, whether it is Anderson or Quinn, may have the NFL odds stacked against him.  Daboll didn’t even sound like he knew who was going to make plays. "Our offense is kind of a conglomeration of a lot of different things. They are the things that we believe in as coaches on this staff to make up the Browns offense.” The problem for the Browns is that none of those things look too exciting for the 2009 NFL betting season.  Derek Anderson may be healthy but the Browns need a lot more than Anderson to impact the online betting odds this season.
