The Atlanta Falcons were a .500 proposition for football betting players going 8-8 against the NFL betting spread.  They were a bonanza for football betting players that liked to bet unders as they went under in 11 games in 2006 football betting period.  Quarterback Michael Vick started all 16 NFL betting games and had his best football betting season overall, but could not lead the Falcons to enough wins to make the playoffs.

The Falcons were at a cross-road in the off-season before the 2006 NFL betting campaign begun.  They were stuck between a hard spot and Michael Vick.  Unquestionably one of the most unique talents in all of pro football when he broke into the league, he was able to do things that no other QB had ever been able to do in football betting games.  He re-wrote how the position was played in the first few years of his career and defenses had no way to stop him other than to hope he had a bad day.  But now after he’s been in the league for a few years, the success of his team seems to drop every football betting year and while, he still remains a super talent; his weaknesses seem to be exposed routinely by opposing defenses.  Defensive coordinators have now seen enough of Vick to figure out what works and what doesn’t work in stopping him and for the most part they’ve been effective in stopping him in many football betting games.

So as the brain trust of the Falcons sat around before the beginning of last football betting season they had to decide if they wanted to continue with the Michael Vick experiment, or was it time to pull the plug.  The team decided to go with Vick for yet another football betting year and although his all-around personal NFL betting stats weren’t awful, he still had big problems throwing the ball and the Falcons limped to a lowly 7-9 football betting record.  Still, they were never all that far out of the playoff hunt and kept things interesting to the very end.  When the dust settled on the football betting season the team was third in the NFC south and only one game behind the second place Carolina Panthers.

Opposing defenses found it much easier to contain Vick in zone type defenses where they allowed Vick time to throw the ball and the secondary just kind of hung back hovering in space.  Vick was his own worst enemy making errant throws on football betting games which led to many punts.  His decision making process and ability to make quick reads were seen as his flaws which opposing defenses tried to exploit to perfection.  He finished with a terrible low completion percentage of 52%.  However, this is Michael Vick we’re talking about and his NFL betting stat line wasn’t all bad.  He did throw for 20 TDs and had only 13 picks to go along with that number.  His 75 QB NFL betting rating wasn’t good, but was average.  But the real jewel in his numbers was the 1039 yards he rushed for, compared to only 2400 passing.

He had plenty of help from his back field mates as well Warrick Dunn, the wily veteran had something of a resurgence as he ran for 110 yards on a 4 yards per carry average.  And the rookie Jerius Norwood just seemed to put up highlight reel after highlight reel.  He only saw the ball 99 times during the football betting season but racked up 633 yards for a 6.4 yards per carry average.  There is other rookie running backs that received a lot of hype, like Maroney and Addai, but no rookie ball carrier were as impressive as Norwood during the last football betting season.  Football betting fans were thankful for his plays.

Once again the receiving corps was quite, but with Vick throwing passes, Atlanta continued to be a place for receivers to go and die and for his tight end to put up huge football betting numbers.  Again Alge Crumpler led the team in receptions, but with only a paltry 56 catches for 780 yards.  Second year man Roddy White, brought in to stretch the field, did no such thing as Vick was unable to find him on his initial reads and he hauled in only 30 balls for the second highest total in the league.

The Falcons D ranked 22nd in the NFL football betting lists and was led by linebacker Keith Brooking who put up another huge football betting year with 136 solo tackles.  DeAngelo Hall was also one of the premier corners in the league though this INT total was nothing all that great.  And this below average D combined with the 25th ranked scoring offense, spelled another football betting year of mediocrity for the 2006 Falcons.  Before the 2007 NFL betting campaign this team will have some very tough questions to answer regarding the future of this team and whether or not Michael Vick will still be playing QB here in the near future.
