The team was 10-6 in terms of over/unders versus NFL Betting Lines in 2007. NFL Lines had the Saints falling from one of the most exciting teams in football in 2006 to a huge disappointment in 2007. They were 13th in points scored according to NFL Betting Lines stats.
Running back Deuce McAllister got injured and the Saints never really recovered. With a healthy Deuce the Saints have a very good offense with Drew Brees, Reggie Bush and Marques Colston. What hurt the Saints on offense is that they couldn’t run the ball without McAllister. They ranked 28th in the NFL in rushing yards according to NFL lines stats. They were third though in passing according to NFL lines stats. Those numbers should change in 2008 with a more balanced offensive attack.
The defense was another story. The Saints were awful on defense in 2007, allowing over 348 yards per game which was 26th in the NFL according to NFL Betting Lines numbers. They were 25th in points allowed according to NFL Betting Lines numbers. Heading into the 2008 season the Saints need to seriously upgrade their defense. NFL Betting Lines experts believe they need a defensive tackle, cornerback, safety and could also use help at linebacker. The Saints signed free agent Randall Gay from New England but he is still recovering from a torn ACL.
The Saints also need to take a look at a couple of offensive needs if they are to improve versus NFL Betting Lines. Experts that consider NFL Betting Lines also believe they need some offensive line depth and a tight end. They could also use a future quarterback that they can develop.
The Saints have the talent to immediately improve versus NFL Betting Lines in 2008. They have a very good offense and if they can get some defensive help they could be a major force versus NFL lines in 2008.
