The Titans were also a great under team going 5-10 on unders versus NFL Point Spreads in 2007. NFL Point Spreads saw the Titans make the playoffs but fall to San Diego. The Titans were an interesting team to follow in NFL Spread in 2007 as they started 6-2, lost three of their next four, and then won four of their last five games. The defense was in the top 10 against the run and the pass, including 8th in points allowed according to NFL Point Spreads data.
There is no doubt that Tennessee needs a healthy Albert Haynesworth in the middle of the defensive line. The Titans finished fifth in the NFL in total defense, allowing 291 yards per game according to NFL Spread numbers, and finished fifth against the run and a solid 10th versus the pass.
Kyle Vanden Bosch ended the regular season with 12 sacks, and Travis LaBoy finished four forced fumbles according to NFL Point Spreads data.
Linebacker Keith Bullock recorded five interceptions while the defense as a whole had 40 sacks, and that was seventh in the NFL according to NFL Point Spreads numbers.
NFL Point Spreads show that Lendale White became the team's main running back with over 1,100 yards and 7 touchdowns on the year. Vince Young completed 62% of his passes, but had a terrible interception ratio as he threw 17 interceptions and only 9 touchdowns. The Titans had the fifth-best rushing attack in the NFL with 132 yards a game. That number is somewhat skewed because the Titans led the league in rushing attempts at 34 a game. The Titans averaged 3.9 yards per carry average, which was 20th in the league according to NFL Point Spreads data. The receivers are weak but it doesn’t help that Young rarely gets them the ball.
The Titans had some NFL Spread success because they had a great kicker in Rob Bironas. His 68 yards per kickoff ranked him fourth in the league according to NFL Point Spreads numbers. He was also the league's fourth-best scorer, racking up 133 points and 35 converted field goals according to NFL spread data.
Tennessee was a major surprise in NFL Point Spreads in 2007. They may take a step back unless the offense finds some sort of a passing game in 2008.
