Preakness Betting Statistics at SBG Global

Preakness betting has shown that favorites win over 45 percent of the time and that the favorite is in the money over 80 percent of the time.

Preakness Stakes betting also shows that the second and third choices in Preakness betting account for about a third of the wins in the last 20 years.

Preakness betting value is sometimes tough to find with the favorite getting so much respect and having so much success. The value in Preakness betting could be in the exacta and the trifecta if you are fortunate enough to put together the winning ticket. Preakness betting history shows that the winner of the race almost always comes out of the Derby. 20 of the last 22 Preakness betting winners came out of the Derby. Many times this is the Kentucky Derby winner, but not always. The past two years have seen Street Sense and Barbaro fail in the Preakness after winning the Derby.

Preakness Stakes betting usually favors the speed horses. While rarely does a horse wire the field to win in Preakness betting, they usually are not far off the pace. Only three of the last 20 Preakness betting winners have won the race wire-to-wire. Pimlico is usually suited well to speed horses with the tight turns but Preakness betting history has shown that the speedballs don’t always win.

Preakness Stakes betting doesn’t hold the fascination that Kentucky Derby betting does with the public but it does hold a historical importance. A horse can’t win the Triple Crown without winning the Preakness. Preakness statistics will show that the payouts are far less in the Preakness but that doesn’t mean you can’t make money. The favorite in the Preakness must be part of your overall handicapping strategy. You don’t always have to bet the horse but you must consider him and use him in the exotics. Preakness betting is just too favorite-oriented to throw the low priced horse out. In many horse races you want to look to beat the favorite. That is not the case in Preakness betting. You need to look for ways to put the favorite into exacta and trifecta tickets. That means the goal is to find other horses that can finish 2nd and 3rd in Preakness Stakes betting. If the favorite does happen to lose then you would have a better paying exacta or trifecta if you boxed the horses together.
