Astros Sign Brett Myers but Still Need Help Sportbook Online

The deal is worth a reported $5 million for one season.  How much Myers helps the Astros in terms of offshore sportsbook odds is debatable but what is definitely clear is that Houston needs more help.

Sportbook online stats had Myers getting an option beyond the one year deal and incentives in the contract. Myers has been with Philadelphia throughout his career.  He is 73-63 with a 4.40 ERA. Offshore sportsbook stats had him going 4-3 with a 4.84 ERA in 10 starts and eight relief appearances last year for the Phillies. Myers was hurt last season for the Phillies but came back in September and made some relief appearances.

Houston may just be throwing money down the drain on Myers. It is too early to tell though.  Myers has really been nothing more than an average Major League pitcher throughout his career and that was pitching with a Phillies team that could hit. Now he is with a Houston team that won’t score as many runs. Myers has other problems as well that go off the field. But the Astros are desperate to show their fans that they are doing something to improve the club.

What do the sportbook online stats show about the Houston Astros?  They were 74-88 against the offshore sportsbook numbers last year.  The Astros were at least decent at home last season going 44-37 in terms of sportbook online odds. That was not enough though to make up for their poor road record in sportbook online results which was 30-51.  Houston was 27th in the league last year in runs scored and they were 24th in team ERA. It is amazing they were just 14 games under .500 with those rotten numbers.  The Astros need a major overhaul if they are to make some serious improvement in sportbook online action.  The Astros need huge help in pitching and they are hoping that Myers will provide a boost. The sportbook online numbers really don’t support that assertion but Houston is trying to do something. Wandy Rodriguez was the one pitcher on the staff last year that could be counted on to keep the team in games and win vs. offshore sportsbook odds.  He had 14 wins and a 3.02 ERA last season.
